TAKING THE CAKE: Manager David Coltman with branch cook Ann Roles, office partner Karen Smith, Tania Hayhoe and Sally Barrett of Georgie's Fund

SUPERMARKET staff have raised £1,400 in memory of an eight-year-old boy who died of a rare cancer. Employees of Waitrose in High Street, Weybridge, held a week-long fundraiser
for Georgie's Fund, a charity named for schoolboy George Hayhoe, from Addlestone, who suffered from neuroblastoma. They sold home-made cakes, held pool and poker nights, a sposored bike ride,
tombola, and other events, which led them to presenting George's Mum Tania hayhoe with a cheque on Wednesday.
Karen Smith, who took charge of the fundraising, said: "This was the first time we've held a charity week and we wanted to support a local good cause. All the money came from staff
and everyone got into the spirit of it and had great fun." Department manager David Coltman even spent the day on the shop floor stacking shelves in return for sponsorship.
Tania, of Garden Close said: "The amount they raised was amazing and we're incrdibly greatful. It will be put towards vaccine therapy and research into a cure for neuroblastoma."
George died in 2004 after a five year battle with the disease, a cancer of the nerve cells which affects 100 British children each year, most of them under five years old.
