On 22nd November we were invited to a very special luncheon organised by PLC who have been raising money for Georgie's Fund over the past year.
Lynne, Nina and I were delighted to go to the Savoy Hotel to meet the ladies of the PLC, enjoy a lovely lunch ( which is a rare thing for us ) and
also collect a cheque for Georgie's fund.
The occasion began well after we were greeted at the entrance to the Savoy by a wonderful gentleman named Peter who kindly looked after the car for us.
We wandered through the hotel looking for 'The Pinafore Room' as that was the meeting point for a champagne reception. It did not take long to find, the
noise from 90 ladies chatting meant we had no problems. We met Maria's mother in law Ann who had put Georgie's Fund forward to the PLC as a charity to raise
money for and for which we thank her. We then had a lovely chat with Patsy the PLC chairperson and thanked her for the support the ladies have shown and the
fun events that they have organised over the year of which some of us had been along to.
We then went into 'The Beaufort' room which had been beautifully set out and we placed a leaflet on each place which thanked the ladies for their efforts and
had some pictures and also what we intended to do with the money they had raised. Sally had put this leaflet together and the ladies were really pleased by that.
Then it was lunchtime. The food was lovely and very festive. Along with some nice wine and great company it all seemed to go very quickly until the pudding arrived
and Patsy decided that would be the time to present me with the cheque! Over the past year, this group of ladies raised £8000 which is a fantastic amount.
Although I had prepared a short 'thank you' speech most of it went out the window when I took the microphone. I desperately tried to remember the hints our Angela had given me.
I was also very conscious of the melting ice cream, which had arrived on the tables in the meantime, so tried to keep things fairly short!
We had decided that it would be very appropriate for the donation from the PLC to be used in its entirety for a special project and after speaking with the Ward manager of the
children's unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital Sutton we are now fundraising for an Echo machine which will be for the sole use of the childrens oncology ward and will mean that
life may be a little easier as there will be no need for them to transfer to another hospital for this scan. Therefore, the money raised by the PLC means we are over a third of
the way to our target of £21,000. I am sure it won't take too long for that total to be reached.
Once again, we are very grateful to all the ladies at the PLC for their hard work over the last year in their fundraising and it has been fabulous meeting you and being included in the events.
