Georgie's Fund was set up in February 2004 to raise funds to research into new treatments and a cure for Neuroblastoma. To date we have given over £45,000 to The Neurobalstoma Society to fund research. The Neuroblastoma Society is intended to be the main beneficiary of Georgie's Fund fundraising. The NSOC have been established for over 20 years and are the main funders of research into Neuroblastoma in the UK. They have an established Scientific Advisory Board set up to vet all research applications that are submitted.

Some of the research that is currently being funded by The NSOC which your money has gone towards are as follows:

  • Dr. Glenn Flux, Royal Marsden NHS Trust and Institute of Cancer Research - £146,545 - 3 year study - Treatment planning for I-131 mIBG radionuclide therapy of neuroblastoma based on patient-specific dosimetry. For more information click HERE.
  • Dr. Chris Redfern, Newcastle Upon Tyne University - £206,737 - 3 year study - Preclinical studies of novel agents alone and in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs for neuroblastoma.

  • We have also been able to do the following:

    Beneficiary Donation Project
Christophers, Chase Children's Hospice £  2,000 Chase Children's Hospice is where George lost his battle in January 2004. It is a lovely place the staff are wonderful. The money we donated to Chase went towards kitting out the swimming pool with a music centre and sensory lighting.
St. Peters Hospital, Chertsey £     200

    Approx

Last June we went along to the children's cancer ward at St. Peters, where George had spent some time, and along with a team of helpers we re planted the garden, which had been somewhat vandalised by rabbits!
The Royal Marsden Hospital £     400 We purchased a TV DVD unit along with a playstation and a selection of games and DVD's for the MIBG unit at the Marsden. This is an isolation unit where children being treated have very limited contact with other people due to the toxicity of the treatment. We hope the playstaion will keep them amused during this time.
Children with Neuroblastoma £     400 During the last year we have been in contact with various families of children suffering with Neuroblastoma. Christmas 2005 we bought Christmas presents for these children and their siblings.

Child with NB that has relapsed       We were able to contribute some money to send a little boy who has relapsed with stage IV Neuroblastoma on a dream holiday to swim with the dolphins.

The Royal Marsden £21,000 Purchase of an echocardiogram for the children's cancer ward at The Marsden to monitor damage to the hearts of children undergoing chemotherapy.

    Cancer Vaccine Institute £  5,000

Pioneering research into vaccine therapy for childhood cancer including neuroblastoma

Georgies Fund will continue to promote research into the causes and treatment for Neuroblastoma by raising as much money and awareness as possible.
