NSOC Golf Day 2009

2008 NSOC Golf Day

Ist Team off the Tee

1st Team Out

The 2008 annual golf day took place on August 5th at the prestigious New Zealand golf club in Woodham, Surrey. Despite heavy rain the 52 players got off to an early start in good spirits following breakfast. Unfortunately although not cold it rained for most of the day. Making the going hard on what the players claimed afterwards as a tough and challenging course. However, they all stuck at it and arrived back at the clubhouse in the same good spirits they had tee’d off in.

Following well deserved pre dinner drinks we were joined by Steve Smith the NSOC chairman for a hearty 3 course meal. It was then onto the auction with the help of Jamie Newington and Edward Middleton, who in partnership sold auction items that had been kindly donated by various companies, and pieces of memorabilia from professional golfers.

Steve then made a very moving speech about Neuroblastoma, the children who are diagnosed with the disease and how it affects the whole family.

Steve went on to present the winning prizes to:

  • Individual Man - Wayne Martin
  • Individual Lady - Sandra Moses
  • Ist Team Boss - John Tedder - Matt Alker - Ian Blondale - Peter Shearer
  • 2nd Team The Brandy Club - David Salter - Robert Salter - Martin Bedwell - Mick O’Meara
  • 3rd Team The Yips - Wayne Martin - Matt Howell - Richard Argyle - David Green
  • Longest Drive - Kevin Stilwell
  • Nearest the Pin - Sandra Moses

Not only did Sandra Moses win the individual lady prize for the 3rd year running but also was good to see her beat all the men to win the nearest to the pin prize. Well done Sandra.

Once again it was a good to see our regular annual players return to support the event although a number were unable to play due to school holiday commitments. Something we will remember when booking the day for next year. However, we did welcome some new teams who are looking forward to returning next year.

We thank you all for your support and the good humour you played in on the day.
