Jessica Pillings

Cheeky Bluebird

A young painter is hoping her artwork will help raise money for a cancer charity, by organising her own exhibition to be staged later this month. Jessica Pillings, 27, from Hersham, is holding the exhibition on November 26 and 27 at the Mitchell Studio Gallery in Addlestone. She will donate 40 per cent of anything she sells to Georgie's Fund, founded three years ago by the mother of a child who died from a rare form of cancer.

"Some of my relatives told me about Georgie's Fund and suggested I help them out," says Jessica. "It's a great way to support what they're doing and I'm hoping to sell lots of work and make this exhibition as successful as the fund's previous events, although I doubt I'll be able to match the £10,000 they raised last time."

Jessica graduated from Brighton University in 2001 and has spent the years since producing privately commissioned artwork.

She also has paintings for sale in shops, galleries and restaurants, as well as a burgeoning career designing interiors with Daisy Fletcher, a fellow illustrator.

Nina Newington, a Georgie's Fund trustee, says: "The art exhibition is something different and exciting for Georgie's Fund. The charity has gone from strength to strength and, because of the help and generosity of people like Jessica Pillings and Robert Mitchell [owner of the gallery], it will continue to grow and fund research to find a cure for this horrible cancer."

Georgie's Fund was set up in February 2004 after the death of eight-year-old George Hayhoe from the rare childhood cancer Neuroblastoma. It raised more than £34,000 in it's first year. It has also recently staged a celebrity golf day, with guests, including Bobby Davro, Max Clifford and Richard Keys, helping to raise over £10,000.
