On the 12th October Georgie's Fund staged the annual
Neuroblastoma Society's Golf Day at Mill Ride Golf Club in Ascot.
The weather left a lot to be desired as it drizzled constantly most of the day, but it didn't dampen the
spirits of our golfers, after some coffee and bacon butties they were raring to go. The teams teed off at 11am from the 1st and the 10th tees simultaneously. This year we were lucky enough to have two children's teams take part
which was great to see. The golfers were kept well oiled by a refreshment buggy from the club which circulated the golfers supplying them with water, snacks and chocolate for the kids and the odd beer for the grown ups!
The conditions out there were quite tough but never the less there were some good scores recorded.
After the golf we had a lovely three course meal to which we had some more guests arrive to join their partners and freinds for the prizegiving. Antonya Cooper the chairperson of the Neuroblastoma Society also attended the evening meal.
After the meal came the raffle
we had some fantastic prizes including a DVD player, various CD's and DVD's many different family days out and various playstation games to name a few.
Angela Capon a trustee from Georgie's Fund then presented a very moving
speech detailing some important facts about Neuroblastoma and explaining why we feel so passionately
about finding a cure for this dreadful disease. After the serious part of the speech Angela introduced our star guest Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys who attended to present the prizes. We were thrilled and honoured that despite having a horrendous trip back from
Liverpool and having to prepare for presenting the England world cup qualifyer live the next afternoon, he still managed to find time to attend our event. Hopefully next year
he will be able to play and put in a celebrity team!
After the meal we all retired to the bar for the auction, we had some very impressive items to auction for example Justin Rose's own golf shoes signed by him and his signed shirt, signed items from some other top golf celebrities such as Nick Faldo,
Darren Clarke, Colin Montgomery. There was also a signed A4 photo of Jordan which was very popular and a signed autobiography of Clive Woodward the World Cup winning England Rugby Team coach.
The auction was conducted by Mark Beard who did an excellent job and was very entertaining. It was a perfect end to a perfect (apart from the weather!) day.
Thanks to all the golfers that took part and all the generous people that donated prizes/auction items and to all the big-hearted people that bought raffle tickets and auction items.
Thanks to your tremendous generosity we raised around £4000! Truly amazing...
