The BAA Charity Golf Day 2006

At Laleham Golf Club

On the 11th May we were invited to attend the BAA HAL Logistics Charity Golf Day at Laleham Golf Club as BAA Logistics had kindly chosen Georgie's Fund to be the beneficairy of their fundraising. The whole event came about after Greg Ward attended the NSOC Golf Day that we organised last year, he promised us on the day that he would raise £5000 for us by organising a Golf Day!

What a fantastic day! The weather was beautiful, blue skies with the temperature high up in the 70's. The day had been superbly organised by Greg's Team Amanda Foster, Andy Dobbs, Nigel Barrett and Craig Sear. Thanks to their thorough planning the day went off without a hitch. There were 84 golfers taking part in teams of 4 which mainly consisted of companies that carry out work for BAA, many of whom sponsored holes and donated prizes for the auction and raffle.

We had collection pots at the 'Nearest the Pin' holes as anyone missing the green was to be fined £1! The first golfers took to their tees at around noon. They were kept supplied with refreshments by Rob and Kim in one buggy and myself Tania and Maria in the other buggy, whilst Amanda and Andy were busy setting up for the evening's auction, raffle and prize giving. The refreshments went down really well due to the heat of the day. They certainly kept us busy, backwards and forwards to the bar!

After a lovely meal and the prize giving, our Ang did a brief speech about Neuroblastoma, what it is and how Georgie's Fund came about. Then it was time for the raffle and auction!

The money raised on the night was going towards a portable echocardiogram for the childrens cancer ward at The Royal Marsden Hospital, at the start of the day we had around £8000 from previous events towards a target of £21,000. We hoped that after the days events we would be a lot closer to our target. The raffle alone raised £1,300! The auction had some fanatstic prizes!

A Signed Millwall Football, Signed Middlesborough Football, Niclas Fasth Signed cap, photo and shirt, flat Screen 20" TV, Cleaning hamper and Maid For The Day, £100 Theatre Tickets and Overnight Stay, Signed Sunderland Shirt, Signed Frank Lampard Picture, Dinner for 2 at Rick Stein's Restaurant in Padstow, Signed Willie Thorne Picture, G5 Driver, Hippo Golf Bag, VX Racing Corporate Day for 2 with RS, 2 weeks' free car parking at any BAA Airport, 3 golf umbrellas, box golf balls, ISS Golf towel and tees package, ISS Golf towel and tees package, golf balls, Terry Ovard's Club, a golf ball and lastly 2 London Irish Rugby tickets. The amount raised from the auction was an incredible £5,470!!!!

There was such a buzz in the room as it was clear that we were near to reaching the £13,000 needed to reach our target! Greg pulled out all the stops to get us to the target even managing to get an Arsenal and Tottenham fan to outbid each other for a golf ball! Which eventually went for a staggering £750???

Thanks to Greg's great auctioning skills and the generosity of the people in the room we reached an amazing £13,000 from the days events! This is the most ever raised at one event for Georgie's Fund!

We had such a fanatstic day and met some lovely people and hopefully we have made a lot more people aware of Neuroblastoma.
