RACE FOR FUN: From left, Jack, 14, Tania and Peter Hayhoe
"...AROUND 200 friends and family of an Addlestone boy who lost his battle against cancer earlier this year have launched a balloon race to commemorate his birthday.
George Hayhoe would have celebrated his ninth birthday on March 24th but succumbed to the rare, aggressive cancer neuroblastoma in January.
Balloons were launched at Darley Dene County Infant School, in Garfield Road, Addlestone, on Wednesday last week to mark the occasion.
His family, of Garden Close, who organised the event at their son's former school, said the response was fantastic.
Mum Tania said: "We were surprised at the amount of people who came. We felt we needed to do something for George's birthday
and we were really glad we did this. It was lovely."
So far, three balloons have been returned and the winner, which will be the balloon which travels the furthest from the school,
will be announced after Easter and receive a £25 WH Smith voucher..."
